Integrated High Lift Propulsor
Wayfarer Aircraft has developed a new, more efficient way to increase the lift of a wing by integrating Distributed Electric Propulsion (DEP) into a mechanical high lift device – the Integrated High Lift Propulsor (IHLP).
The efficient blown wing allows takeoff and landing at much lower speeds and in much shorter distances than a conventional aircraft. With the IHLP, this performance improvement can be achieved with substantially lower weight and cost than current alternatives.
The increased performance allows practical electric and hybrid electric super Short Takeoff and Landing (STOL) aircraft capable of operating from runway lengths that are widely available even in urban areas, with today’s battery and motor technology. Autonomous aircraft with ground support equipment can take off and land within their own wingspan, without excessive accelerations, offering the VTOL-like capability at a fraction of the operating cost.
These aircraft may be derivatives of existing, in-service designs or clean sheet; in either case they provide more advanced capabilities at significantly less cost than alternatives.
Benefits
- Economical: An IHLP equipped aircraft costs 25% less to operate than super STOL alternatives, and a fraction of VTOL cost
- Lightweight: The IHLP reduces motor power by half and weight by up to 70%
- Low Drag: The IHLP does not impact cruise drag, unlike alternative DEP designs
- Efficient: The IHLP provides high lift at low thrust, enabling slow, steep landing approaches without complex flap systems
- Retrofittable: The IHLP is specifically designed to be incorporated into existing wing designs
- High Performing: The IHLP reduces field lengths by 75% without an increase in total installed power

3.5x Payload or Endurance from same Launch & Recovery Equipment, with 1/3 the acceleration

IHLP substantially reduces the cost and emissions to transport people or freight, at significantly higher speeds
